Is Uganda or Rwanda better for Gorilla Trekking?

Is Uganda or Rwanda better for Gorilla Trekking?

Is Uganda or Rwanda better for Gorilla Trekking?,  Uganda is better than Rwanda because Uganda offers affordable Gorilla Trekking permits compared to Rwanda. Rwanda charges US$1,500 for a gorilla trekking permit while Uganda charges US$700 (Although starting from 1st July 2024, the permit will cost $800). However, below is a comparison that will help tourists.

Accessibility, Rwanda’s Gorilla Trekking sites are particularly in Volcanoes National Park that is more accessible from the capital city Kigali, compared to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks. This can result in shorter travel times and fewer logistical challenges for visitors hence making Rwanda to be more accessible.

Scenery and Landscape, Both Countries offer stunning landscapes but they are different in character. Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is known for its dense, lush vegetation and rugged terrain, while Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is characterized by Volcanic Mountains and bamboo forests.

Gorilla Habituation Experience, Uganda offers a unique Gorilla Habituation experience in addition to traditional Gorilla Trekking. This longer and more immersive experience allows visitors to spend more time with a Gorilla family undergoing habituation, providing a deeper understanding of their behavior.

Tourism Infrastructure, Rwanda generally has more developed tourism infrastructure compared to Uganda including a wider range of accommodation options and smoother travel logistics. However, Uganda’s tourism infrastructure has been steadily improving in recent years and it offers a wide range of accommodations starting from luxury to mid-range.

Crowds, Rwanda’s gorilla trekking experience tends to attract fewer tourists compared to Uganda. This could result in a more intimate and less crowded experience for visitors.
