Bushaho Gorilla Group
The Bushaho Gorilla Group is one of the habituated families in Nkuringo Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. In 2012, some members of the Nkuringo gorilla group disappeared from the group and after countless efforts injected into searching them. It was realized that they had joined the Bushaho gorilla group. Also among the members that left Nkuringo gorilla group is Bahati. Who was a silverback here and when he moved to Bushaho gorilla group, he became the dominant silverback.
Bushaho group descended from the Nkuringo family. It consists of 11 members with 1 Silverback, 1 black back, 4 adult females, 2 semi adult females and 3 infants. This group led by silverback Bahati who was observed for quite some time. Before discovering that it was a silverback in the Bushaho gorilla family who was responsible for the family’s habituation. Bushaho area is the place where the group forages most. However, the group tends to stay in areas between Rushaga and Nkuringo. Therefore, visitors in both sectors can still visit the family.
The number of family members bound to increase depending on the aggressiveness of the silverback. Its ability to raid new members and also sire more offspring to grow the group. Bushaho group habituated together with the Bukingi gorilla group and is now open to trekkers that are out to encounter gorillas in Uganda.
Trekking the Mountain Gorillas starts very early in the morning with a briefing. Conducted by the UWA Rangers who equip the tourists. With guidelines on the dos and don’ts during the gorilla tracking experience. After the briefing, visitors assigned a ranger guide who will then take them through the forest as they search for these majestic creatures.
The duration of the trekking activity between 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorilla group assigned to. Sometimes these gorillas go deep into the forest. Which makes tracking them to possibly go on for hours. The Gorilla trekking experience takes you through forests, thick bushes, valleys and hiking through highlands. All these activities add up to the overall memorable moments in the forest as tourists get the opportunity to encounter some other exciting flora and fauna during their trekking experience.
