The Ark Lodge

The ark lodge  found in Aberdare National Park in Nyeri east of the Great Rift Valley, it is a unique charming lodge in the form of Noah’s ark with four viewing decks outlooking a floodlit water hole and salt lick that attracts many mammals. In order not to miss any unexpected animal visitors, night guards will buzz your room if there are mammals at the water hole. For clearer animal views, the ark lodge has a bunker in a circular pillbox-like structure that is just perfect for game viewing and photography.

 Dining.

The restaurant designed with wooden walls and ceiling creating a cozy setting for guests enjoying breakfast and dinner.

Lunch served at Aberdare Country Club a sister lodge to the Ark Lodge, fresh ingredients from the club garden are used to ensure a unique meal.

Meals at the Ark Lodge are prepared by experienced staff and served by hospitable staff, mouth-watering local and international cuisine are available and served with organic vegetables. Special meals are also available on special orders for visitors with dietary needs.

The bar.

The Ark Lodge features a well-stocked bar with different kinds of wines and beverages both liquor and non-alcoholic. Fun at the bar and relaxation from a long day’s adventure.

Accommodation

The lodge has 60 deluxe cabin-like rooms on three levels Deck A, Deck B, and Deck C. 6 singles, 37 twin-bed rooms, 8 double bedrooms, and 9 family rooms each tastefully designed with a touch of African culture. Deck C is the main deck comprising all the lodge’s main facilities like the restaurant and bar, it is also easily accessible for the disabled.

All these rooms are neat and comfortable to fit the client’s needs. Each room has a bed, ensuite bathroom with shower, and large mirror windows for easy game viewing. All the rooms are an inspiration of Noah’s Ark with open verandas resembling ship decks for easy game viewing

Activities that are offered at the Ark Lodge.

 Visit to the moorlands.

A visit to the moorlands will expose you to the magnificent waterfalls of River Magura, River Chania, and River Karuru.

Birdwatching.

The abundant birdlife in the forest makes birdwatching easy with over 250 recorded bird species. The most common birds include the emerald green malachite sunbird, the double-collared sunbird, the golden-winged sunbird, and the Tacazze sunbird.

Trout fishing.

Trout fishing done in the moorland’s small river called River Chania in Aberdare National Park.

Game drive.

Half or full-day game drives done in 4*4 enclosed safari vehicles, you are likely to encounter mammals. Like leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, and primates like colobus monkeys among others.
