The day starts early with a hearty breakfast at your lodge before heading to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette and safety. The anticipation builds as you learn about the majestic mountain gorillas you are about to encounter. You will be assigned a group of trackers and a specific gorilla family to visit. The trek itself can range from an hour to several hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. As you hike through the dense forest, the excitement grows with each step. The terrain can be challenging, but the reward is worth every effort. Upon encountering the gorillas, you will spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Watching the gorillas interact, play, and go about their daily lives is a profoundly moving experience.
After the trek, you will return to your lodge for lunch and some well-deserved rest. In the afternoon, you can opt for a cultural visit to the nearby Iby’iwacu Cultural Village. Here, you will learn about the local culture and traditions, enjoy traditional dances and music, and possibly even participate in some activities. Dinner will be served back at your lodge, and an overnight stay.
